Environmental Commitments: Preserving the ‘Island of the Gods’

Our environmental policies are designed to minimize our footprint and promote the responsible use of Indonesia’s precious natural resources.

• Mandatory SVLK Certified Timber: We have a 100% mandatory policy for SVLK (Sistem Verifikasi Legalitas Kayu) certification for all wood products. This Indonesian government system ensures that our timber is legally harvested, transported, and processed, effectively fighting illegal logging and promoting sustainable forest management. We provide SVLK documentation for every wood-based shipment.
• Promoting Sustainable Materials: We actively encourage our clients and work with our artisans to utilize rapidly renewable materials such as bamboo, rattan, water hyacinth, and reclaimed wood.
• Low-Impact Finishes & Dyes: We partner with workshops that prioritize the use of natural dyes, water-based stains, and low-VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) finishes to reduce chemical pollution.
• Waste Reduction & Circularity: We consult with our artisan partners on techniques to minimize material waste, such as using wood offcuts for smaller decorative items, and we are exploring programs to repurpose waste materials.
• Carbon-Conscious Shipping: We partner with leading freight forwarders like Maersk that offer carbon offset programs (e.g., ‘ECO Delivery’) for ocean freight, allowing our clients to mitigate the carbon footprint of their shipments.

Our social responsibility is focused on ensuring that the economic benefits of our trade flow directly and fairly to the artisans and their communities.

• Fair Trade Principles: While not formally certified on all products, we operate on core Fair Trade principles. We guarantee fair, prompt payment to our artisans at prices they set. We conduct regular audits to ensure fair wages and safe working conditions, with a strict prohibition of child labor.
• Preservation of Cultural Heritage: By creating a viable, premium global market for traditional crafts, we provide a strong economic incentive for younger generations to learn and continue these invaluable skills, from silversmithing in Celuk to weaving in Nusa Penida.
• Direct Community Investment: Through the Juara Holding Group’s foundation, a percentage of our annual profits is dedicated to community development projects in our partner villages. This includes funding for local schools, support for community health clinics (‘Puskesmas’), and sponsorship of cultural ceremonies (‘Odalan’) that are vital to village life.
